There’s a new Facebook related scam, and no, it doesn’t involve the venomous rants and libelous writings of our West Easton Constable.
It’s an email being generated by a bot program and making its way to FB users, attempting to convince them to call a toll free number. Supposedly, to prevent removal of your Facebook account, scheduled for deletion.
Calling the number connects you to an individual that will ask for identifying information on you and your account, for “verification.”
It’s not very sophisticated and most should recognize it as a scam, but, like phone scams, some may fall for it and become a victim of identity theft, or hacking of their FB accounts.
The blaring identifier of this email being a scam is the email address of the sender. FB doesn’t use gmail as their mail server. Other indicators can be found in the screenshot of the email I received. I marked in red, the obvious faults of this “notification.”
