West Easton got sunshine. Children got plenty of marshmallow Peeps and candy that made for a great day.
The field at our community park on Keystone Avenue was dry enough to allow children, divided into age groups, to dash for plastic eggs and boxes of Peeps spread over a wide area.
After the eggs and candy were gathered up the children were treated to hot dogs and assorted goodies. Children also had their picture taken with Petunia Cottontail.
75 children registered for the Easter Egg Hunt, more than doubling the amount of 32 children that participated in 2017, the first year the hunt was revived after being abandoned by a previous administration.
The success of the Easter Egg Hunt was due to more than just a sunny day.
Numerous volunteers turned out, including Safety First Volunteer Firemen, who set up tables and chairs, helped distribute eggs onto the field, and made themselves available for any last minute needs.
Members of Safety First Ladies Auxiliary were on hand to make sure the kids had a great day. Donna Stamets, who coordinated the event with West Easton Borough Manager, Joan Heebner, and others all worked tables, distributing food and prizes. They provided all the plastic eggs and the candies found inside them.
Our Petunia Rabbit was Karen Bright. She helped the smaller children gather eggs and posed for those who wanted pictures taken.
Sharon Niko, and her sister-in-law, Louanne were also on hand, as was Joan Heebner’s son, Jeron.
Councilmen showed up and volunteered to distribute eggs onto the field. Paul James, Pete Mammana, Jeff Breidinger, and myself all enjoyed watching the families turn out for the event.
There were many volunteers and if you weren’t mentioned by name, please know your efforts were greatly appreciated, as it is hoped more community events can be arranged this year.
Donations of food and Peeps were made by: Safety First Social Club, Dubs on 5th, Giant Food Stores, and Just Born.
Below are some pictures I took. For more pictures taken by others, please visit the borough’s official Facebook page by clicking HERE:
