Only two days ago I wrote about the Republican Tea Party fanatics causing the halt to street work in West Easton.

The corners of streets, having been funded by grants to meet the requirements of The Americans With Disabilities Act, were only partially completed when the Federal government shutdown occurred. The cement work had been completed, but the asphalt portion and grass replacement needed to be done.

So, there the corners remained. Orange fencing and barriers around them for more than two weeks as a constant reminder of politicians who tried to hold America hostage.

It must have been my poetic writing prowess that convinced them to stop playing games. Yesterday, they finally came to their senses.

After shutting down the U.S. government for 16 days and driving the nation toward the brink of default, a chastened Congress voted late yesterday to reopen federal agencies, call hundreds of thousands of civil servants back to work and raise the $16.7 trillion debt limit.

An agreement struck by Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) ended a stalemate created last month, when the hard-line conservatives pushed GOP leaders to use the threat of shutdown to block a landmark expansion of federally funded health coverage.

This morning I took a couple of pictures and talked to the asphalt workers, who were in the process of completing our street corners.

I believe the Republicans have lost their votes and those of their families. They are happy to be working again and catching up on bills.

I’m happy my not-to-distant future of sitting on a Go-chair and being able to traverse street corners with it, in order to visit the local drinking establishments, is now ensured.
