Last year, Borough Manager Joan Heebner asked my opinion on West Easton having an official Facebook page.

Joan wanted my thoughts on a “community” account. My opinion was that, because it came at no cost to the borough, she can do what she thought was best to help get out information to residents. My only warning was that there would be trolls visiting.

So, Joan ran with it and to her credit, she has it under control. In fact, it is going better than I expected. She interacts with community Facebook accounts like Wilson Borough, Tatamy, and others to get out and share information that West Easton residents may find useful.

Often, additional information can be found on West Easton’s Facebook account that isn’t directly related to West Easton, but still beneficial for some residents to know about.

If you are a trusting Facebook user you should add West Easton Borough PA to your list of “Likes,” or “Follow” choices.

If you have 10,000 “Friends,” ask them to “Like” or “Follow,” as well. Put those 9997 people you don’t know to good use.

Admittedly, I’m not a fan of social media like Facebook. I don’t use it much and though I do have a Twitter account for this website, I rarely update it, or tend to it. This site and the Youtube videos of council meetings is more than enough to deal with.

But, that’s just me. I don’t need, “Likes,” or as some people I know do, try to amass as many “Friends” as possible to show how popular they are with people they’ve never met.

That, of course, is referring to people with personal accounts. What some people upload onto their accounts can be unbelievably revealing.

Facebook has its advantages I suppose. I always love reading the stories about criminals posting to Facebook about the money they got selling drugs, or doing something illegal – complete with a picture. Thank God, for the stupid criminals.
