Vice-President of Council, Janie Jones Brown will be submitting a Resolution at tonight’s council meeting, supporting a ban on the use of tobacco products in West Easton parks.
Sorry, snuff sniffers and tobacco chewers, you’re included in the ban. It’s more than just a ban on smoking.
If it has nicotine, or involves tobacco, it’s verboten.
Specifically:
Any product containing, made, or derived from tobacco or nicotine that is intended for human consumption, whether smoked, heated, chewed, absorbed, dissolved, inhaled, snorted, sniffed, snuffed, dipped,” or ingested by any means including, but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, pipe tobacco, snuff, or dipping tobacco.
Electronic substitute users, and others, are also included in the ban:
Any electronic device that delivers nicotine or other substances to the person inhaling from the device, including, but not limited to, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), vape pens, Juul devices, pipes, hookah pipes or devices, and any other similar electronic tobacco devices which ignite tobacco and/or emit smoke, aerosol or vapor.
Though I’m opposed to bans created, that encompass entire communities, including all streets and all sidewalks, I don’t have an objection to bans within parks and playgrounds, which are gathering areas for children of all ages.
Nicotine products for use as FDA approved smoking cessation therapies, such as Nicorette, or patches, are exempt from the ban. The proposed Resolution can be read HERE.
