West Easton Council voted 5-1 for re-installing swings and basketball hoops at the parks.
The motions to reinstall the equipment came separately. One for the swings, another for the basketball hoops. The vote was the same for each, with myself being the lone dissenter on each vote.
I dissented on the swings because they will be installed without a 6′ distance between them. I dissented on the basketball hoops because the game can’t be played with social distancing and nobody realistically expects kids will be playing the game wearing masks.
With reported Covid-19 casesĀ declining in Northampton County due to the measures taken to prevent its spread, now is not the time to pretend it has been eradicated.
The equipment will be put back in place following the purchase and installation of new mulch just in time for the onset of winter, and the addition of signage reminding everyone of the pandemic and that the equipment isn’t being sanitized.
The vote by the majority of Council has provided me with additional information to consider, regarding the use of the online meeting platform, Zoom.
I’ll write more on that tomorrow.
