The Finance Committee finished crunching numbers at their public meeting last night, and will be sending Council a budget that will keep West Easton taxes at 11.7 mills for the 8th year in a row.
It remains one of the lowest mill rates among Northampton County communities. The 11.7 mill rate began in 2016. It was 12.2 mills in 2015. One mill translates to a $1.00 levy on every $1,000 dollars of assessed property value.
Despite fearmongering, by a few who once predicted bankruptcy, or higher taxes for the borough when a new Council began creating the part-time police department, West Easton remains financially sound.
The proposed budget includes increased wages for borough employees, and police personnel.
The process of Council reviewing and advertising the budget will begin at the next Council meeting in November.
