With so much factual and also inaccurate information being put out by politicians, political pundits, social media, bloggers, scam artists, and rumor mongers, you’re likely confused about how much toilet paper you have to stock up on.
Will the COVID-19 die out in a few weeks on its own? Do those fiber masks prevent getting infected? Are you safe if you are under 60 years old? Will health services be overwhelmed? How contagious is COVID-19? Will closing schools help?
Without any politics, or finger pointing, a real medical expert spoke about COVID-19 and what we can expect from this pandemic.
Michael T. Osterholm is an American public health scientist and a biosecurity and infectious disease expert. He describes himself as a “Medical Detective.”
Osterholm is the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota and a Regents Professor, the McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair in Public Health, a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health, a professor in the Technological Leadership Institute, College of Science and Engineering, and an adjunct professor in the University of Minnesota Medical School, all at the University of Minnesota. He is also on the Board of Regents at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
In the podcast below, hosted by comedian Joe Rogan (who takes this podcast seriously), Dr. Osterholm gives facts about the virus, how it was accurately predicted to appear, and what to expect, not in the coming weeks, but in the coming 3-6 months.
It is worth the time to watch. As he states, he isn’t providing the information to scare us out of our wits, but to scare us into our wits, taking precautions as necessary, and not thinking the COVID-19 is similar to a common cold, or typical flu.
