Mayor Dan DePaul presented an emergency declaration for West Easton at the council meeting held last night.
Council unanimously approved to ratify the declaration.
West Easton has already taken steps to mitigate the affects of the Covid-19 shutdowns occurring on the county, state, and federal levels, as it moved toward social distancing and preventing infections, where possible.
The declaration was made not because people have been in a panic and carts are collecting the dead, but because it might be required later, should the borough seek recovery of possible costs relating to the pandemic.
Bureaucracy being the way it is, West Easton needed to cover all bases should it put in for reimbursement of any expenses. The concern was that West Easton, if it failed to “officially” declare an emergency, might lose out on any reimbursement it might seek, due to the pandemic.
