For far too long motorists have been using West Easton streets as a means to avoid lights along Freemansburg Avenue and traffic on 25th Street that can back up below Aldi’s. Some just think they can save a couple of minutes by speeding, and rolling through stop signs in West Easton.
Most violations occur on Main Street, Spring Street, and Keystone Avenue.
West Easton Police have been issuing citations for failing to stop at stop signs. Most of these violations have occurred where Main Street meets East Street.
Now, police will be turning their attention to speeders, as well.
Along the streets mentioned previously, motorists may notice white lines extending from the curb to the other side of the street have been added recently.
These are speed enforcement lines, set a specified distance from each other.
West Easton police use a stop watch to time a vehicle from the first line to a second line. Using a math calculation, the time it takes the vehicle from the first line to the second line used reveals the speed of the vehicle.
West Easton Police Chief Robert Mahady has stated this new enforcement is not a “speed trap.” He isn’t intending on ticketing people who are only a few miles per hour over the posted speed limit, but those racing through town will be cited without exception.
So, if you are one of those using West Easton streets to save time, you may be better off going around our community, if you’re incapable of slowing down, and stopping when required.
