There were three Letters Of Interest submitted to Council, seeking the appointment to the vacant 2-year seat. The seat became available when Councilman Ron Nixon, who won both a 2-year and 4-year seat in November, chose to occupy the 4-year seat.

Mr. Kenneth E. Decker, Jr. was chosen to fill the 2-year seat through a nomination motion and subsequent appointment vote of Council.

Following the vote, Mayor Dan DePaul administered the Oath of Office to Ken.

Mr. Decker then took his seat with the other Council members.

Ken grew up on 10th Street and eventually bought his first home in the borough.

He has been a member of the Safety First Volunteer Fire Company since 2007, is a Freemason, and is also a member of the Tall Cedars of Easton.

He stated his desire is to grow as a member of the community. He is now the youngest member serving on Council.

He admits that he has much to learn about local laws and regulations, but some of that may be alleviated when he attends the Newly Elected Officials Boot Camp in February.

The Boot Camp, offered to any elected official and staff, is a two day interactive presentation offered by the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs (PSAB).

A motion to appoint was also made for Ms. Robin Strawn, a 29-year resident. Though she was not appointed to Council, she has been asked to consider and is contemplating submitting a Letter Of Interest for an appointment on the Zoning Hearing Board, on which a vacancy exists.

The third candidate who submitted a letter, did not appear at the Council meeting and received no motion for the appointment.
