Mayor DePaul and I stopped by the War Monument this week, as Dane Thatcher was digging a 30″ deep hole that would receive cement. The cement will form a base on which a granite block will rest.

monumentThe WWI plaque, that has been removed from the back of the larger monument, will be secured to the top of the granite block.

The plaque lists 55 men from West Easton who served in “The Great War” and found them all but forgotten when the plaque was moved many decades ago to the rear of a new monument, that replaced the original obelisk.

The moving of the WWI plaque was approved in October of last year by a vote of Council, following a previous Resolution submitted by me in June of that year. Winter months delayed the start of the project.

The project will be completed and ready for re-dedication at the Memorial Day Service event, to be held at the end of this month.
