West Easton Potholes And Pot Problems Addressed

When you drive through West Easton streets today you shouldn’t have to worry about the fillings in your teeth being jarred loose.

Friday saw an asphalt company making rounds through the streets, repairing the worst of the potholes first and also filling in around manhole covers that had eroded areas around them. Councilman Henry Nodoline and Road Department worker Dane Thatcher assisted with traffic control and supervision duties.

The company used a spray injection method to patch potholes. The truck utilized an extendable arm that prepared and patched potholes. First, air is blown into the pothole to remove loose gravel, debris, and water. Next, the arm sprays emulsion oil that coats the hole and helps the aggregate adhere to the surface. A mixture of hot oil and rock is applied to fill the pothole, and then a final coating of rock is applied to the top of the pothole.

This pothole patching method has become more widely accepted in the past 10 to 15 years.

Travel near the trestle areas are no longer a hazard to your rims and tires. You will also notice other streets with fresh fill spots done.

“About 98% of the holes were repaired before running out of the fill mixture,” said Council President Dan DePaul. “The crew worked from 9 am until 3 pm today,” DePaul also stated yesterday.

The West Easton Council approved up to $5000 to repair the borough during a previous Council meeting in January. The actual cost came in at $2200.

On another front (or rear), the pots in the restrooms at Borough Hall were upgraded. I was going to create a headline for this news to say, “Council looks to fill two vacant seats,” but I realized it would only end up being toilet humor.

Long overdue in meeting the Americans with Disabilities Act requirement and standards for public restrooms, a plumber was brought in to make the necessary changes.

New fixtures were installed, as were metal support bars on the walls in both the men’s room and women’s room. The total for job was around $1,170, which included the new fixtures and labor costs combined.

The local media failed to respond to our request to cover the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Use of the new restrooms is still free. You will only be charged $10.00, if you fail to use the provided air freshener before leaving.

UPDATE: The restrooms were incorrectly presented as meeting the ADA requirements of modern restrooms. Only the replacement parts used were ADA compliant.
