Obama’s Job Approval Poll – Muslim Love And Mormon Hate

obama-approval-scaleOverall, President Barack Obama only has a 43 percent job approval rating among all Americans, but how does he do among individual religions?

Gallup interviewed 552 Muslims and at least 1,700 respondents in every other religious group.

Results of the poll, published last week, reveal that Muslims approve of the president’s job more than any other religion group in America right now.

The United States remains a predominantly Christian nation, with roughly half of Americans identifying with a Protestant religion and another quarter identifying as Catholics. Thus, the opinions of the Christian groups are by far the most influential in determining Obama’s overall ratings.

According to new data from Gallup, his approval rating breaks down as follows:

    • 72%  Muslim-Americans
    • 59%  Other Non-Christian
    • 55%  Jewish
    • 54%  No Religion/Atheist
    • 44%  Catholic
    • 37%  Protestant/Other Christian
    • 18%  Mormon

While followers of the Mormon religion are least impressed by the president as of late, according to the data, it should be noted that Mitt Romney, a Mormon who ran against Obama in the last presidential race, was soundly defeated.

The order in which different religious groups favor the president isn’t anything new — Gallup’s Jeffrey Jones acknowledges that “the relative rank order of the religious groups on job approval has been consistent throughout Obama’s presidency.”

It’s possible that President Obama’s approval rating may continue to decline slightly.

This latest Gallup’s poll reflects on data taken through June 2014, whereas the opinion of Pres. Obama among many Muslim-Americans may have changed in the weeks since. Earlier this month in July, journalists at The Intercept published a report based off of leaked National Security Agency documents revealing that the Obama administration has spied on no fewer than five prominent Muslim-Americans using the capabilities of the NSA’s vast surveillance apparatus.

Dozens of religious groups and human rights organizations have written the White House to express their disapproval since that leak came to light.
