Mayor Gerald W. Gross presented the “Mayor’s Report” to Council at Monday’s meeting.

It would be his last report, as he decided to retire from public office and not seek re-election for another term, that would have started in 2018.

His wife and family members were in attendance, providing additional support for the man that served our Borough for 52 years.

grossHis report opened by requesting Council to look into correcting guardrail and trash problems in the Borough.

He was allotted all the time he needed, to speak to Council and reminisce about his years serving on Council.

Beginning by thanking residents of West Easton for their support during his time in office, he spoke about and named some of the best Council members he worked with over the years. From when he first served and was mentored, through his years as Council President and Mayor, he mentioned many people by name.

He recalled when a Chief of Police was to be paid $2.10/hr, he and others helping to dig trenches for laterals to sewer lines being installed in the borough, developing the parks, paying off loans and bonds ahead of schedule, and a number of other accomplishments performed by many over the years.

He also mentioned disappointments he had, such as the loss of police coverage, Ashley Development that would have brought a larger tax base, the failure of a previous Council to take advantage of a grant in excess of $300,000 that would have taken care of the trails and trestles – years ahead of other communities.

He paid tribute to Council President Dan DePaul’s wife, who was a Council member, but succumbed to cancer years ago.

He hopes that Council will continue to build on what has been accomplished and maintain West Easton’s good image.

Because the above is a very condensed summary, I have isolated his address to Council in the video below, in order for you to hear it, in its entirety, from Mayor Gross, himself.

I wish Mr. Gross well and I’m sure he will stay active in the community he dedicated so much of his time and energy to. Thank you for your many years of service.
