donotcallIf the last time you put your phone number on the “Do Not Call” list was when it was first touted as the solution to telemarketers, then you are likely noticing those telemarketers are back. That’s because there was a limited amount of time your number would remain on that list, before you had to re-register.

Pennsylvania’s legislature wants to correct that.

This week, the House unanimously passed House Bill 129 which would allow consumer phone numbers registered on the state’s “do-not-call” list to remain on the list permanently.

Currently, numbers are only valid for five years and consumers must re-register to protect themselves against unwanted telemarking calls. Under the proposal, phone numbers would remain permanently protected from telemarketers, unless the subscriber chooses to have their number removed, or the number is no longer valid.

The legislation also would prohibit telemarking calls on legal holidays. The legislation now goes to the Senate for further consideration. To enroll your phone number on the “do-not-call” list, click here or call 1-888-777-3406.
