Late Fee Waiver

The quorum of 4 Council members present at Monday’s Council Meeting approved a new Late Fee Waiver Policy for the quarterly Sewer/Refuse bills by a 3-1 vote (DePaul, James, DeesLewis dissenting). My hope, when I originally broached the policy subject is to create a small benefit to residents with a history of on-time payments and to encourage those who are often late to create a better payment history.

Residents who pay on time for 8 quarters will receive an extra business day to have the $20 late fee waived. Beyond the 1-business day no excuses to have the fee waived will be considered by the office staff.

The policy is retroactive. If you currently have paid your bill on-time for the last 8 quarters you are qualified for the extra day, should you be late in the future.

The entire policy can be read HERE.

The Council members also voted on the subject I introduced, of accepting local business advertising. It was unanimously approved to accept such advertising on the borough’s website, WestEastonBorough.com and in its quarterly newsletter.

With sufficient advertising the costs of running the website and newsletters would be paid for. The more advertisers the borough attracts, the less it requires the borough to spend from the budget.

Currently, actual contractual agreements are in the hands of the Legal Committee for review and pricing of different size ads for each media venue will have to be determined, so it isn’t ready for a roll-out just yet.

I gave only suggestions of what I thought pricing should be, but my forte is website pricing of ads. The office can better address the pricing of newsletter advertising.

A business ad, on a left sidebar of the website, might appear like this example:
