Democrat primary candidates for Council, Desiree Lake and Betty-Jo Bonners are distancing themselves from Tricia Mezzacappa. The need for them to make statements to clarify their position came almost immediately after Mezzacappa showed public support for their candidacies.

Betty-Jo Text Messages_270x650Mezzacappa, the lone Republican primary candidate for Council, placed a banner on her porch promoting herself, Tom Nodoline, Lake, and Bonners in the upcoming Primary on May 16th.

While Mezzacappa and Tom Nodoline running as team was expected, Mezzacappa’s inclusion of Lake and Bonners came as an apparent unwelcome surprise. Mezzacappa is currently suing the borough.

Lake and Bonners wanted to be sure the voters were aware that they were not working with Mezzacappa and were running separate campaigns.

I received an email from Ms. Lake stating that she is running an independent campaign and that Mezzacappa’s support was unsolicited.

Ms. Bonners sent me a text message saying that she also did not solicit Mezzacappa’s support and verbally expressed her concern that one might think she would want to “partner up” with Mezzacappa. She made it clear she does not.
