Hoping to recover the borough’s costs of running a website and mailing quarterly newsletters, I brought up the subject of accepting advertising at the January Council Meeting. It was met favorably, but a vote will wait until some preliminary steps are completed.

Council members accepted my offer to develop a basic policy setting guidelines for those who might want to advertise on the borough’s website and newsletters.

That policy will be presented to Council at Monday’s meeting for review. Actual contract agreements that would be used have been sent to the Legal Committee members for review.

The policy is fairly standard for advertising, but there will be one major difference found in the contractual agreements, since ads will appear on borough controlled media. No political advertising for elected positions, or promoting political parties/agendas will be accepted. The actual agreements go into greater detail on what is allowed and what is not.

What will be accepted is advertising of businesses that are deemed appropriate in nature, including the appearance of the actual ads.

Local businesses that have obtained a West Easton Business License take preference for placement and availability of space, over a business from outside the borough.

Advertising would appear on the left side of the website on all pages except the landing page, and I’m suggesting offering 3 different size ads with price increases for each larger size ad. Larger ads would get placement preference. All ads would be on a 1-year agreement.

Businesses that wish to advertise will submit their own advertising images and if they have their own website the borough will link the advertisement to their site.

Along with website advertising there will be an additional option to advertise in the quarterly newsletter.

Newsletter advertising would offer ad sizes of 1/16, 1/8 (business card), 1/4, and 1/2 page, available on a quarterly payment basis.

The actual pricing for advertising will likely be determined at a future meeting, but I expect it will be far below what other local communities charge.
